The festivities may have
been cut down by one day,
but all the favorites are
returning. There is
something grand planned for
every day. Old Fashioned
Sunday, Family Day,
Fireworks, and the Parade
are just a few of the

MUSIC
AT MAUDSLAY
If you haven’t already had your
fill of music, here is something
else to put on your calendar.
Throughout the months of July
and August, concerts will be
held at the barn at Maudslay
State Park. The music is varied
and includes country music, jazz
bands, and children’s music

BREW FEST 2008
July 30th
6-9 pm Downtown Newburyport
Take a taste of up to 30 craft
beers. Music will be proved by
EJ Oullette and Crazy Maggy.

Art in The Park
Kids getting a little antsy? Not to
worry, Newburyport Youth Services is
sponsoring art in the park.
“Creation Agents” will be stationed
in various parks throughout the
city. They will be painting and
crafting. On Tuesdays, Art in the
Park will be held at Cherry Hill
Fields, on Wednesdays at Moseley
Pines, and on Thursdays at Perkins
Playground. Activities will take
place from 12:30 until 2 pm and is
geared for ages 4 to 10 years. The
program will end the week of August
15.

“Adding on to your historic
home,” a seminar for owners of
older homes on Saturday, July
19, cosponsored with the
Newburyport Preservation Trust.
The panel of experts
includes keynote speaker Frank
Shirley, architect and author of
New Rooms for Old Houses:
Beautiful Additions for the
Traditional Home; and
members of the preservation
staff at Historic New England,
Sally Zimmerman, preservation
specialist with the Historic
Homeowner program; Joseph
Cornish, senior stewardship
manager; and Bethany Groff,
regional site manager. The
panel discusses what to consider
if you are planning to enlarge
your historic or older home,
offer tips and strategies for
creating additions that enhance
the livability of an older home
without sacrificing its historic
character, provide case study
and historical examples, and
identify pitfalls to avoid.
Attendees may bring images or
plans of their houses to share
with the experts.
The seminar is from
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the
Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, 5
Little’s Lane, Newbury,
Massachusetts. Program fee is
$40 for the public, $25 for
members of Historic New England
or the Newburyport Preservation
Trust, and $15 for Historic New
England Historic Homeowner
members. Registration is
